Description
Few New Zealanders live far from the coast, and many cherish the special nature of seaside communities, and their place in our early history as a source of food, and valuable minerals, and a busy coastal shipping industry.
With over 15,000 kilometres of coastline there is a breath-taking range of locations to experience the rich scenic diversity found on a journey around the coast. From the picturesque sandy beaches of the east, to the long drifts of black sand on the west, the visitor will also encounter evidence of the forces that have shaped our land, and ongoing nature of the upheavals caused by the continental plates which meet beneath New Zealand.
With well-researched introductions and descriptive captions that reference the history and current land use around the coast, Alison Dench’s text adds context and depth to Rob Suisted’s evocative photographs.
Wellington-based photographer and conservationist Rob Suisted combines his passion for wildlife and magnificent scenery with a successful photographic library. His photography appears in Molesworth: Stories from New Zealand's largest high-country station written by Harry Broad. His images are well known throughout New Zealand and have appeared in calendars, books and magazines. He is the author of 14 books published with New Holland including the new compact hardback format of Majestic New Zealand. This title is the eighth in the successful square pictorial series.
Alison Dench is a skilled researcher, who writes, edits and designs books. She has written several books for New Holland, including Museums of New Zealand, Walking the Waitakere Ranges with Lee-Anne Parore.
